Edgewater Welcomes 3 New Businesses!
|
Know No Limits!
Know No Limits is a neighborhood gym that recently opened in
Edgewater on March 3rd, 2009. Karla Shelton, owner, a personal
trainer for four years and before opening her first location in 1991 on Lincoln
Ave, later moving to a location in Andersonville and finally this new location in
Edgewater. Karla received her Business and Physical Education Degree from Central Michigan University
and is certified with various physical training institutions. She started her
personal training career because she was, and still is, a tri-athlete, she has
done over 60 triathlons in 20 years. Karla chose Edgewater because of the
friendly community organizations such as EDC, the Chamber and ECC. In addition
the suitability of the new space, and proximity to her other locations made
this a no brainer. She keeps up with customer service by keeping the customers
happy, and creating a warm and inviting space. She also has a friendly staff
that makes Know No Limits very inviting. Karla's biggest piece of advice is,
"Get good people to work for you and they will work with you".
Know No Limits is located on 6125 N Clark St and can be contacted at
773-262-9229. They are open Mon-Thurs: 5:30AM-10PM, Fri: 5:30AM-9PM, and
Sat-Sun: 7AM-7PM. They will be having an open house this Saturday and Sunday
from 10A-3PM, they will be giving away prizes, refreshments, free passes and
all kinds of fun stuff, don't miss out!
"We are happy to be here, we love the space and the area;
this may be my most successful endeavor yet!" - Karla Shelton

Attention Gamers,
Chicagoland Games is Here!
Chicagoland Games opened Halloween Night in 2008. This is
the first business developed by JP Nery, Alex Dunning, and Jeremy Murphy, three
friends whom are dedicated gamers and previously worked together in a gaming store.
After two months of discussion and planning, and on the eve of the Presidential
Election, these three comrades decided, once and for all, to go through with
opening their own store. Their personal familiarity and awareness of the gamer
population and process of running a game store guided them in their pursuit.
They decided to open in Edgewater because of the young and vibrant customer
base, and we are thankful for it. The best business tips the proud owners have
is to be prepared, because everyday is a new challenge. Just go for it, if you
spend too much time waiting for the "perfect situation" you will never get
anything done. Chase your dreams! Chicagoland Games is located on 1207 W Bryn Mawr,
Business Hours (Days & Times) Mon-Sun 10-10.

What are the Laws of
Hair?
Laws of Hair is a hair salon named after its owner Ron Laws.
Laws of Hair recently opened on March 10, 2009. After cosmetology school it has
always been Ron's dream to own his own salon. While working as a chemist for
Campbell Soup he also got his cosmetology degree from Toledo
Academy in Ohio. He managed and worked in various
salons in Ohio and Chicago, he set his mind on getting his own
business. After three years and various meetings with community groups he
finally got his business license at the end of December. Ron believes Edgewater
is up-and-coming, drawing its strength from its own diversity; this is what
attracted him to Edgewater. With much diligence, perseverance and calm
headedness he finally opened his salon! Ron wants you to know, "Never give
up on your dreams, and do what it takes to get it done. It's a challenge, but
what is life with out a few challenges?"
Laws of Hair is located on 5354 N Broadway and can be
reached at 773-769-8836 or Ron@lawsofhair.com. They are open Tuesday - Friday:
11AM-8PM and Saturday: 10AM-6PM. Their full line of hair care products are also
20% off every Wednesday until the first of June! Ron wants to give you a great
cut at a reasonable price!

ACTION: Support the "Green Infrastructure
for Cl ean Water Act"!
Green infrastructure has arrived on the national agenda,
with funding to back it up. The federal stimulus act explicitly places a
clear priority, and 20 percent of water infrastructure funding, onto green
roofs, rain gardens, pocket wetlands, native vegetation, sustainable streets
and parking lots, and other landscape-based water-conserving measures.
CNT
recently advised President Obama's Transition Team on the value of green
infrastructure in federal water, housing, energy... Read More

Edgewater Environmental Plan
EDC was proud to participate in the launch
of the Edgewater Environmental Plan. This Plan is in the process of being
developed by the community to map a green future for Edgewater. In order
to achieve the goals of reducing global warming and creating a more sustainable
future for our planet and our home, we all need to do our part. As a
result, a coalition of Edgewater residents and organizations have banded
together to craft a plan for Edgewater to "Go Green" and help build
this sustainable future. How do you describe "sustainable"?
A good shorthand definition is "for our current activities to meet our
current needs without taking away from future generations."
If you want to become involved in helping
to craft a strategy for Edgewater to become more green, please contact us via
e-mail info@edgewaterdev.org or
telephone 773-506-4016. EDC is chairing the Planning & Development
section of the Edgewater Environmental plan, and we encourage and welcome your
involvement.
